Occasionally a student needs an advocate who understands both the needs of the child and the constraints, needs, programs, and obligations of the school.
As the child’s advocate, we become a liaison with the school, working with individual classroom teachers to provide a cohesive and effective academic program. We also work with the administration to provide insight which may impact classroom and school placements when these decisions are being made.
Today many adults are returning to classrooms to increase skills, retrain for new jobs, obtain higher degrees, or finish education interrupted in earlier years. Being out of the classroom for some time frequently presents specific stresses such as test anxiety, decreased short-term memory, issues of self-esteem, and fear of failure.
